In Productivity

During the past couple of weeks, I’ve been thinking about what direction I want to take my business — I actually thought of it as a business for the first time — and I got serious.

I’m going to start creating small products for you — nothing fancy, nothing big — just useful little products that solve one problem at a time. But I need to know what problems you have, so I can come up with solutions.

What do you want? What would help you achieve your goals in spite of your flakiness?

  • Do you have trouble getting things done? Why? What’s holding you up?
  • Is time management a problem for you?
  • Do you have a hard time focusing on one thing and finishing it?
  • What about procrastination and resistance?

If you’re like me, all of these are problems for you, but which one is bugging you the most? Which one is really interfering with your business?

Okay, that’s one angle: how to get around our flakiness. But there’s another side of me I haven’t written about here, and I’d like to see if I can help you with my mad tech skills too. I’m a bit of a geek, plus I love creating tutorial screencasts.

  • Is there something about WordPress that’s driving you crazy?
  • Do you want to learn more about plugins or widgets or CSS?
  • Maybe setting up Paypal with e-Junkie is freaking you out.
  • Or you’d like to host a webinar, but it’s all too intimidating.

Or something else?

I’m not going to do a formal survey — just tell me in the comments what problems you’re struggling with. I’d love to find a way to help. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ummm – is there an answer for *all of the above*? My level of *flakiness* seems to keep me mired in quicksand – so I guess my number 1 problem would be why-do-i-NOT-take-the-actions-i-KNOW-i-should*?

hmm – wondering why there is a little baby face next to my name? would that qualify as a *technical problem*? haha

Ah yes, I know that one well: resistance!

I agree with Jen – all four of those are a problem for me if I don’t impose concrete discipline on myself. Probably the third is my biggest issue, though.

      Wait! I thought I had a gravatar ๐Ÿ™

That is weird! Your first comment has your gravatar, and the second one has the baby. You’re not Benjamin Button, by any chance, are you?

You may have used different email addresses and Gravatar is set to a specific email address, even though you can configure more.

Yep, I think resistance/procrastination is the big one for most of us, and I’ve got a great idea to crack that nut. ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, wait, I counted wrong. You’re talking about focusing and finishing things. Well, it’s close, and I think my solution will help. Not my solution, exactly, but I’ll charge you for it anyway. :p

Personally, I think I would need help achieving my goals in spite of my flakiness. My biggest challenges are time management and having a hard time focusing on things. Plus, my biggest enemy is the time. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks, Eugen. I have the same problem with focus and time management. I think I’ve come up with something that might help. Tune in tomorrow!

My biggest flakiness issue is that things drop off my radar and I totally forget to do them. Sometimes it doesn’t matter (I’ve been meaning to find a clock repair guy and get a new winding key for my mantle clock so I can adjust its speed), but sometimes it does (I was supposed to get a semi-important test run for one of my docs a month ago, and haven’t done it yet).

I only remember things when I can’t actually DO THEM. WTF.

I also have trouble focusing on one thing and finishing it when it’s something I don’t want to do.

Sounds like a few of the many faces of RESISTANCE — and man, I hear you. I
think I’ve got just the thing for that. ๐Ÿ™‚
