In Road Trip!, Travels with Scout

(Please ignore pissy, previous post. I was just having a bad day; all is well now.)

This has been in the works for a while and it’s been hard to keep quiet about it, but now I can tell you: I have an art van!

It started with an idea that’s been nagging at me ever since I got this big, white, BORING van: why not get an artist to paint something beautiful on it?

So I posted my idea on Facebook, and a wonderful artist named Barbara Martin raised her hand.

Much discussion ensued while I meandered down from Canada to Portland, OR, where Barbara lives. Friends pointed out that painting directly onto the van could cause problems when I want to be discreet, as in stealth camping in cities or crossing the border back into Canada, which I hope to do often.

So it was decided to have Barbara’s artwork printed onto two big magnets that I could carry on the sides of the van when I want and take them down when I don’t.

Et Voilá!

I wish I could have had Barbara paint the whole van as originally planned, but the magnets fit just right.

So, now I’m getting ambitious.

I want to display more artwork from other artists, too. There is plenty of blank space left to add new work, and I can rotate them as I collect more paintings. I want the Art Van to become a rolling gallery, sharing beauty with the world as I pass by, maybe even helping to spread the word about individual artists, with their domains printed at the bottom of each magnet.

Any artists out there interested in this idea?
