In Make Customers Love You

I’m so glad I get to post today,  number 23 of the challenge. You know it’s crunch time and I know many of us are feeling a little stressed about  getting everything done and having a successful launch. It also means were closing in on the time to sell our products and/or services. For many selling is something that they don’t enjoy or find really stressful and uncomfortable. (I’ve heard the word hate thrown around before – just saying!) And I want to let you know that it truly does not have to be that way. If you can, take a deep breath and let’s talk about it.

Selling is where the magic happens.

It’s where you get to deliver. You get to ship that product that you’ve been working on, that you’ve designed and created.  Or you get to consult or coach or design or write. You get to do your thing! It is  what we are most  passionate about right? It’s what we want to do.  It’s the reason for doing the challenge. It’s why we’re entrepreneurs. Selling your product or services is really an extension of that energy and passion.

So, why the resistance?

Why the fear?  For some it to creates so much anxiety that they almost want to avoid it completely. So the product goes unsold. All because of what they feel like they have to do to sell. I know the fear can be real. So let’s eliminate it.

What is selling?

I wanted to define what selling really is for the customer love group and I found myself  going round and round about it. I finally came up with the very best explanation. The best possible definition. Are you ready?  Selling is nothing more than providing the opportunity for your prospect to say yes. That’s it. That is selling. I’m here to tell you that you can absolutely do that. The only responsibility you have, the only thing you need to worry about is making the offer. No pushiness, no coercion or trickery. (None of which is selling anyway.)

You can do this!

So the next time that little voice in your head (that we all have )  starts saying things like “I can’t sell.”  “I hate selling.” Stop the voice and say to yourself, “All I need to do is provide my prospects, my right people, the opportunity to say yes.” Focus on making your offer wonderful.  Jonathan wrote about putting your love into your offer, into your sales page. Put your passion and energy and sizzle out there so others can see all of the wonderful things that you have to offer. That is selling.

In the sales process your only responsibility is to ask.

Give them the chance to say yes!

I hope that helps you reframe selling.  Please leave any questions or comments below and we’ll tackle them together!

Thanks, Phyllis – I’m one of those people who really has trouble with the whole concept of selling. You’ve taken a huge weight off my shoulders. You make it sound so easy, I don’t even feel nervous about it any more, lol!

Thanks LaVonne – It is easy – especially for people who get the whole “customer love” approach. If you focus on meeting customer needs, then making an offer to help/solve/serve and giving them a chance to say YES is a natural next step!
