In Road Trip!

I am no longer cranky.

I am writing this on a picnic table at my temporary campsite in the Sherwin Creek Campground outside of Mammoth Lakes, California, inhaling the intoxicating aroma of pine needles warmed by the sun. A chipmunk just scampered up the tree in front of me.

My friend, Linda May, who helped me get a job camp-hosting for the summer at the Minaret Falls Campground a few miles from here, is the camp host at Sherwin Creek. I start work there in a few days, but in the meantime I am camping with Linda, enjoying her delightful company, and learning a bit about the job in the process.

Yesterday, we went to take a look at my campground. Can I just say, OH. EM. GEE?

See between those trees? That's the view of Minaret Falls from my campsite.

A closer view of Minaret Falls from my campsite. The sound of the falling water and the babbling brook will lull me to sleep every night.

The creek beside Minaret Falls campground. Lots of fishermen and women will be camping with me. Now, I want to learn how to fish!

Just outside the campground, we came across lots of evidence of a huge windstorm that hit this area in 2011. Trees were toppled like toothpicks.

I didn’t get a chance to stop on the narrow road down to the campground to take photos of the incredible views, but I will in a day or so and post them. Every turn, Linda and I were saying, “OMG! Look at THAT!”

And then… just as I published this post… Linda showed up with a gourmet lunch:

Brie/roasted pepper/pesto grilled cheese on french bread with peaches for dessert

This is heaven, I tell you. Heaven!

OH EM GEEEEE! Fanfuckingtastic! It looks swell and I’m glad to hear the grumpy mood has passed.
I hope you will be there long enough for me to visit! I finally found a rig, such as it is, that I am hoping will get me to and fro. First a trip to CO with the Monk. I plan on being back in July but you know what happens to plans….
    I’m so happy for you!

You’ve got to come here, Yolanda! It would be so awesome to camp with you. We could go fishing and fry ’em up for dinner!
