In Road Trip!, Travels with Scout

I’m leaving Canada tonight and heading back to my starting point, San Diego. I’ve been on the road so long it’s hard to believe this is only the halfway point, but it won’t take me nearly as long to get back as it took to get here. At least, I hope not.

I almost feel like the trip is over, even though I’ll be on the road another month or more.

I’ve achieved my longtime goal to reach Vancouver and visit my friends, Atli and Sandi. Along the way, I got to spend quality time with Linda, Swankie, Wendy and Jeremy, Delisa, Larah and Chuck (and their great kids, McKenna and Genevieve), and Suanne.

I fell in love with new places where I didn’t get to spend nearly enough time, so I’ve vowed to return as soon as possible (next spring?)

I didn’t get a chance to visit Vancouver Island or the Canadian Rockies (or the Arctic Circle!) and had to cut off a huge section of the planned trip across Canada to Minnesota and down to Texas. I hope to rectify that next time.

It’s a big continent

I have a feeling the only way I can see enough of it is to be on the road for the rest of my life. Sounds tiring. And exciting.

The van is clean, the dog is napping, a shower at the rec center is about to be had, and dinner is in the offing tonight at Sandi’s place.

After that, Scout and I are off again to see what lies beyond the horizon.

p.s. If you happen to be somewhere along the Pacific coast, let me know so we can arrange to meet up. I’m looking forward to it.

Are you going to find the Canadian border guard who gave you a bad time and say, “See, I’m LEAVING!”
