I’m trying a cool experiment with the Bluetooth keyboard I bought way back when I was getting ready to become a fulltime vandweller and worried that I might not be able to charge my Chromebook or Macbook Pro.
With the keyboard, which only cost $30 (but now I see they’re even cheaper), I had the security of knowing I could easily write with any device that could connect to it, even my Kindle Fire. (Yes, I like gadgets.)
I’ve only used the keyboard once since then because I got a solar panel to charge things up and besides, I couldn’t really figure out how to use it with my ‘dumb’ phone.
But now I have an iPhone and suddenly everything is easier. Go, Apple!
I really think I am going to like this. I have Simplenote installed on all my devices so I can write on any of them and then access what I wrote on any of the others.
This will be super useful when, like today, I can’t charge my laptops because a couple of weeks ago, I blew out the solar controller and the inverter by reversing the wires to the battery. Oops.
I plan on buying a new controller and inverter but in the meantime, when I can’t get to the library or Starbucks to charge up the laptops, I can use my phone with the keyboard.
I can always charge the phone with the cigarette lighter in the van. Or the USB port I found on the dashboard. (Having an almost-new van with lots of bells and whistles is pretty awesome.
Now, I have zero excuses left for not writing a Nudge. In fact, I have even installed the Dragon dictation app so I can ‘write’ without the keyboard. All I need is my iPhone.
