In Road Trip!

It’s time to go

Dawn at Ehrenberg

Dawn at Ehrenberg

I’ve felt this urge for a couple of weeks now, this impatience for a new view, a new experience, a more comfortable spot to hang my hat. Ehrenberg has been a good place to learn how to be a vandweller, but now I’m bored. And tired of the wind and the dust and dirt filtering into every crack and crevice. It’s getting warmer every day, too — the choice seems to be this: burning hot sun or wind that keeps things cool, but brings dust and dirt.

Time to go

So I am headed to Cottonwood, about twenty miles from gorgeous Sedona, where I spent a day and fell in love last summer. I spent yesterday packing up and saying goodbye to Bob and Judy, Lori and Russell, and Wayne — the last holdouts from RTR. They will join me in Cottonwood soon, but I want to go now. I’m excited to be off on my own little adventure, all by myself for the first time.

It feels like a fresh start, a chance to get back on track with my diet and (ahem) budget. I’ve vowed to start walking every morning again, and if I can find a smooth patch of ground for my yoga mat, to do yoga every day too. Maybe even meditate.

It’s 7am and I can’t sleep any longer. I am itching to go and see what’s around the next bend, beyond the far mountain.

I’m going now. See you soon!

Hey Ichy Feet, Send me a map or GPS so I can join you. This is why we are mobil so we can go to the place of our heart’s desire.

That would be awesome, Linda! I don’t have GPS but Bob drew me a map. Let me know when you get to Cottonwood and I’ll meet you at the Walmart and lead you in, lol! I’m taking a break outside Phoenix right now and will get back on the road in an hour or so.

Oh, me, too! I’ve been housesitting for the last 3 weeks and I’m anxious to get back into my tiny trailer and back on the road! I’ve enjoyed the San Diego beaches, the fresh tangerines on the tree right outside my door, and the beautiful sunny days (although 75 degrees is absolutely perfect weather to me!!) for just long enough. I’m ready to move on!

Enjoy your time on your own! Sounds wonderful!

Oh, where in San Diego? I lived between SDSU and La Mesa for 17 years — too long, even with perfect weather. But then, I didn’t have fresh tangerines outside my door!

I’m out on horse property northeast of Vista in North County. I was here for 18 years before I moved to the State of Washington. It’s more mellow than downtown 😀 I couldn’t move back here for anything… too many people! But I love love love the beach so I take advantage of it whenever I can. And of course, the fruit is wonderful!

Horse country in North County is gorgeous, and I lovelovelove East County… lots less people there. The beach — not so much, lol.

I think it’s great you’re venturing out on your own…for now! What an exciting time. We learn by doing so this is awesome! About the yoga mat, what I do when there are no smooth spots…I make one myself, a little bigger than the yoga mat itself in case I need to move it or what not, just make a big rectangle and then with a make-shift shovel or a gloved hand, moved those rocks and little pebbles untl you have yourself a little yoga box! I did it at the RTR and it worked out great. Good luck, safe travels!

Thanks, Kyndal — that’s a great tip for the yoga mat, I will try it. Hope we run into each other one of these days!

On your own! Like me! I have been on my own for the last few days and it’s been heavenly and also lonely. I went up to Lake Isabella ,beautiful but the wind chased me out. I went further up the river, beautiful but I moved on to find a free spot and….well. I just wanted to say hi and wish I could drive out to join you but there is a baby I’m waiting to catch soon and I don’t know if I should venture out to far just in case.
Anyway, I’m there in spirit. Good luck with the diet, don’t be too hard on yourself! Baby steps.
Also I like Kyndal’s earthy yoga mat idea.
    See you out there!

Sounds like heaven, Yolanda — except that’s where I am, and you’re not here! Soon, dear, soon…

Isn’t that area gorgeous? We were near there, Verdi actually but Cottonwood is just over the hill so to speak. Loved it there. Have you been to Jerome yet? A must see if you are in that area and if you can, take a train ride into the Red Rock Canyon. Great trip. Hope you have as much fun as we did when we were there.

Aileen, I feel like I just discovered Paradise. My campsite is overlooking a beautiful valley, it’s so quiet and peaceful here, I could stay forever. Thanks for the tips about Jerome and the train ride. Will definitely do!
