In Road Trip!

dirt paths

There are dirt paths you can walk or dirt roads you can drive (or walk). I like ’em both, but what I really like is driving down a dusty, bumpy, dirt road.

I fear that I may have shortened LaVanne’s useful life by doing so, but I can’t help myself. Dirt roads, bumps and all, are what I live for now. Pavement, city streets, and freeways are definitely not where it’s at for me.

There is a feeling of accomplishment you get when you navigate around unexpected rocks and dips just in time, slowing down for that stretch of washboard just ahead, speeding up coming out of a curve, and the thrill of narrowly missing disaster every now and then too. Your windows are open, of course. No point hiding in an air conditioned metal box now that you’re finally out IN IT.

Still photos can’t show what I’m talking about, so you’re just going to have to try it yourself. Slow down to look, really look, at the flowers by the roadside and the cows grazing close by. Enjoy the mountains in the background — but watch out for that Jeep careening your way!

Be prepared to feel the grit of dust on your skin and in your hair by the time you’re done. You can shower later.

Dirt Roads….I love this! We are leaving the dusty roads of Colorado tomorrow for the Navajo Nation Fair in Window Rock. Mr. Pico and I are looking forward to lots of food booths! Hahaha
Then on to Gallup and finally Flagstaff, a weather report of cooler weather. Looking forward to seeing you in the Great Desert of Southern Arizona.

Sameer! Been thinking about you lately! I hope to make it to Flagstaff in a couple of weeks myself, maybe we’ll see each other there… otherwise at RTR. Kiss Mr. Pico for me!

I like dirt roads for where they go and who they keep away. But it’s a joy when I get back to pavement, like eating chocolate again after months without it. Wow, smoothness.

Haha, and I am definitely a Rocky Road type. Give me a Snickers bar any day. Chunky peanut butter too.
