Fear is such a huge subject, and yet we don’t talk about it much, do we? We all try to act like everything is finewhile inside, we’re a gibbering mess. Or is that just me?
Have you noticed? Lately, the blog posts in the online marketing community that draw the strongest responses are about fear in one form or another. Clearly, a LOT of people are freaking out about starting or running their businesses, yours truly included. Why is it so scary?
For me, a big fear that underlies all the rest is fear of the unknown. I don’t know what it will look like or feel like to have a successful business. I’m afraid of success, afraid I won’t be able to handle the complexity that comes with it.
For instance, I now have 450+ followers on Twitter and I follow close to 700. There is no way I can actually read all those tweets. I guess it’s part of the numbers game of playing social media but I really don’t know how anyone can handle more than that. Every day, I’m finding more fascinating tweeters and bloggers I want to read — but I have no time or mental space left for them.
Factor in vocal coaching appointments, follow-up messages, setting up mailing lists, writing blog posts and newsletters, replying to comments, commenting on other blogs, creating and promoting products — and we’re talking a lot of complexity. [Does anybody blog about managing all this, I wonder? Well, I guess that would be me, if I ever get it figured out.]
If I already have all I can handle — more than I can handle — how can I possibly manage a successful business, which means even more interactions with people, more appointments to keep track of, more things to REMEMBER? I can see from all the wonderful how-to’s out there how it’s achieved, but not how it’s managed. And that scares me.
So you can imagine my relief that Catherine Caine’s new project, Awesome Fear Wrangling: Tame Your Website Fears, Grow an Awesome Website, is launching this week. Just what I need! She goes where the brave dare not go.
I was lucky enough to interview Catherine a few days ago. I really enjoyed talking with her about how she managed to get such a huge project done in such a short time. Plus, she has the cutest giggle EVER:

There’s still time to get on Catherine’s Advance Discount list, no waiting for the official launch on Friday. I bought a copy and plan to dig in as soon as I hit Publish on this post. Lots of good stuff there.
Just so you know, I’m an affiliate, so if you buy through my link, I’ll make a commission. Sweet!
